Whitney & Donnie Are Engaged | Alpharetta, GA Engagement Photographer

On Sunday I had the chance to photograph a long-time dear friend of mine and her fiancé. Whitney is the kindest soul in the world, and Donnie reflects that perfectly. I’ve known both of them for years, as we grew up in middle school and high school together. They simply adore each other. From the minute our time together began until the very end, they were completely focused on each other and the love they shared. Now I’m thrilled to share a few of my favorite photos from our session with you.

Whitney and Donnie, I can’t wait to celebrate your wedding in August and to see all that is in store for you two! Thankful our cities are close to each other!

Alexis & Hunter are Engaged

2013 was an incredible year for so many reasons. Some of which were the great opportunities that I had to photograph engagements, family photos, weddings and all of our adventures. I always say that there is something special about being able to take photographs for people… it’s like I’m documenting a piece of history, and often, one of the most special times in peoples’ lives.

Yesterday kicked off 2014’s photography with one of the sweetest couples out there. Alexis & Hunter are friends of mine from college. When I heard of them getting engaged, I couldn’t be more excited. The chance to shoot their engagement photos was just the cherry on top! We got to visit some of their most cherished places in Athens & Watkinsville from their time together at the University of Georgia.

These two are some of the most encouraging, genuine and gracious people out there. Plus, they were total troopers in the freezing cold! It was tough for me to pick my favorites from our session because they are just that precious. But, alas, here is my weak attempt at narrowing them down:

A Biltmore Proposal: Lance + Melissa

There are few moments in a couple’s life that are more exciting than an engagement. So, imagine getting to be a “fly-on-the-wall” capturing every second of that memory. Well, I found out this weekend that it’s pretty amazing.

When our friend and Chip’s former roommate, Lance, asked Chip if he thought I’d be interested in photographing his proposal to his sweet girlfriend, Melissa, Chip instantly said yes. Then Lance topped that with the fact that the proposal would be at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Ok, twist our arms.

Plus, it gave us the perfect excuse to celebrate our 1-year anniversary a little early on a weekend getaway!

On Saturday, we sneakily climbed up the hill overlooking the Biltmore to document the big moment – or “Operation Wedding Cake” as Chip dubbed it.

While I was nervous we were going to be seen, Chip was calm as can be and kept commenting on how he felt like a spy… and was loving every moment.

After some stealthy hiding among trees and bushes, I was able to snap a few photos before texting Lance to tell him we were ready!

From the back

After a few moments of chatting, Lance reached for his pocket to pull out the stunner of a ring.

Reaching for the ring

And like a true Southern gentleman, down on one knee he went to ask Melissa to be his wife!

On one knee

She said YES!

She said yes

And then after a few moments found us, as I was now skipping around with excitement like a little kid in a candy shop. I seriously love documenting special moments and this one certainly qualified as that!

Found the photographer

Lance was not only thoughtful and smart enough to have a photographer come for the proposal, but also planned to leave a bit of time before the entrance time for the Biltmore tour. We got to get some great engagement photos at the place where it all happened!

What a sweet time to celebrate with friends! I have been talking about how special it was all weekend. I truly believe that every girl wants to remember that moment when her future husband proposes. I’m just honored that Lance thought of me to make that possible through photos! Such a treat!

Now, we just can’t wait for this sweet couple’s wedding later this year! Congratulations, Lance and Melissa – we wish you all the best!

Saving the Date for the Future Andersons

I had two dear friends in high school. We each were involved in three totally different things, but ultimately had one common bond: Spanish class. We really only became great friends our senior year, but after so many Spanish projects complete with dessert breaks, friendships like that stick like glue.

In 2011, MR got married. In 2012, I got married. And in 2013, we’re marrying off the 3rd of our trio – Katie! We couldn’t be more excited! In fact, we even have thrown out the idea of all of us living in a triplex… maybe.

Lucky for me, I had the privilege of shooting engagement photos for Katie and her man, Scott in downtown Roswell, GA. It was a blast and a beautiful day. After editing, ooh-ing and ah-ing at how great this sweet couple looked, I had the chance to help Katie’s vision for a “Save the Date” come to life!

Yesterday, the postcard arrived in the mail and it was such fun! Not only is one of my best friends getting married, but I loved being able to see the final product come to life from photography to design to print. Now, I’m just ready for July to be here to celebrate my sweet friend!

But first, bridal shower and bachelorette planning ensues! Woo!

2012: The best year yet!

2012 has certainly been an incredible year! We feel so blessed by all of the amazing moments we had. To name a few: Chip and I got married, started our life together, adopted the sweetest pup and did so much more. I’m excited to close out the best year yet and ring in 2013! Check out some of my favorite moments of 2012:

What was your favorite moment of 2012?

Gorgeous Athens Engagement Photos: Sydney + Tyler

This couple is so beautiful – inside and out! Sydney and Tyler were such fun to spend the afternoon with in Athens. Tyler actually lives in Memphis and had a long trip back home after our shoot, so he gets major credit for being such a great sport! It’s always fun to see couples really enjoying themselves, even when they know they have an 8 hour drive ahead of them!

They will be getting married in October of 2013, and I know it will be an incredible wedding. Until then, check out their gorgeous engagement photos! It was a beautiful day and the sunset at the end was absolutely amazing!

What kind of props do you love in engagement photos? It’s always fun to make them uniquely yours. I’d love to hear your ideas!

After an incredible Thanksgiving break, I topped off the weekend with an engagement photo shoot of this gorgeous couple. Sydney is a sorority sister of mine and a future intern of the communications agency I work for. I can’t wait to have her join our team in the spring!

She and Tyler are both so genuine and it was such a joy getting to explore Athens together. They will actually be getting married at the beautiful Carl House – the same place Chip and I got married! It’s so fun getting to hear their excitement for planning and marriage!

Without further ado, here are a few of my favorite photos from the afternoon:

Athens Engagement Photos: Arielle & Chris

Every UGA fan has a bullet on their bucket list that reads something like:

  • Touch that gorgeous green grass in Sanford Stadium

Well, last weekend, I was about as close as possible to achieving that goal without actually being Between the Hedges. What I mean is that I had the chance to hang out with an awesome couple and shoot their engagement photos – football style. One stop we made was in Butts-Mehre, the Georgia Bulldawgs football facility. Let me just say, this place is amazing. Plus, it was awesome to be able to capture them having fun in their element!

Check out some of my favorite shots from the afternoon of the fabulous Chris and Arielle!

Aren’t these two gorgeous? Thanks so much to the future Mr. & Mrs. Burnette for an awesome day!

So, what is one item on your bucket list you’d like to cross off? I’d love to hear!

Sneak preview: A beautiful Athens engagement

Tonight I had the chance to shoot engagement photos of this lovely couple. Chris Burnette is #68 on the UGA football team (Go Dawgs!) and his fiancée, Arielle, is someone I recently met through a friend. It was an absolute blast and they were a ton of fun!

I can’t wait to share more photos, but for tonight, here are a few!

Stay tuned for more later!

The Inaugural Post

Hey y’all!

I’m very excited to get this blog going… it’s been a long time (and a lot of encouraging from the husband and friends) coming. Too many projects and meals have passed without being documented, so here goes!

Without further ado: Welcome! You can learn a little more about me here.

And you can learn a little more about the inspiration for this blog and “mason jar moments”… well… here:

I have a love for mason jars. Perhaps it began while living in my college home. Affectionately called “Hartford House”, this house was full of joy, laughter and 5 of my best friends. One, a very talented artist, always graced our walls with incredible artwork. One painting of fireflies flitting about a mason jar made its home on the walls of the hallway next to my room and always brought a smile to my face.

On July 17, 2011, my best friend in the world brought me along on a day-long adventure throughout Athens, GA including us on the porch of that sweet home, him on one knee with a ring in his hand and me with tears of joy on my face. I said yes (of course).

After that moment on the front porch of Hartford, I wanted to bring about the joys of a mason jar in a new way. That sweet, Southern simplicity (in antique blue this time) would be the inspiration to our wedding day. There’s nothing I love more than a blue mason jar full of hydrangeas. If I could have that on my table every day of the year, I think I’d be the happiest girl alive.

To me, mason jars are a bit of everything I love: crafting, cooking, weddings and photography. They are just plain “homey”. In fact, I have them all over our home in random places to remind us of life’s little joys. Here, I’ll document those joys for the world to see.

Who knows where this will go, but I sure hope you’re along for the ride!

Looking forward to it. Stay tuned for the first official project post coming soon!
